Finding ways to help during challenging times

Dear InfraGardNCR members:

At this very challenging time for our community, region, and country, I wanted to share some thoughts with you about how you, as a member of InfraGard, can help your neighbors. First, on behalf of our Board of Directors, I want you to know that we share your concern about the Coronavirus. Just like you, we are worried about our health and the health of our loved ones. On top of that, we are also worried about how our lives may be impacted by this extraordinary situation.

One thing that gives us comfort is knowing that, despite the tremendous challenge we are facing, critical lifelines are and will continue to function at a high level thanks to the dedication and hard work of infrastructure owners and operators. The electric grid is operating fine; we have safe water to drink and use; our communications infrastructure is supporting the tremendous number of people at home teleworking; and our healthcare sector is working day and night to keep people as healthy and safe as possible. I could go on with countless examples and am thankful for the whole of community, unified approach to this emergency being taken by government and the private sector that is literally keeping the lights on.

As members of InfraGardNCR, I know you are passionate about supporting your community and carrying out the missions of InfraGard and the FBI. In that spirit, now more than ever is a good time to volunteer or donate resources as you are able.

Here are a few opportunities for giving back to your community during this difficult time:

  • American Red Cross: The American Red Cross now faces a severe blood shortage. Healthy individuals are needed to donate now to help patients counting on lifesaving blood. Find out more here: https://www.redcrossblood.org/

  • Capital Area Food Bank: As essential second responders, the Capital Area Food Bank is working diligently to continue core operations amidst this public health crisis. Find out more here: https://www.capitalareafoodbank.org/covid19response/

  • Medical Reserve Corps: Volunteer today for this force of dedicated medical volunteers. Now recruiting active and retired health care professionals, medical students, and other interested volunteers.

  • District of Columbia: https://dchealth.dc.gov/mrc

  • Maryland: https://mdresponds.health.maryland.gov/

  • Virginia: http://www.vdh.virginia.gov/mrc/

  • Meals on Wheels: This organization provides support and safety-net services to seniors—a population that needs extra support during this crisis. Find out more here: https://www.mealsonwheelsamerica.org/

These are just a few examples – I am sure you can think of a lot more. Please consider volunteering in your community during this crisis. I know that by helping our neighbors and each other, we will all get through this. If there is anything I or the other members of the InfraGardNCR Board of Directors can do to be of support, please don’t hesitate to email us.

Thanks very much for supporting InfraGardNCR and your community!

Warm regards,

Steve
